چکیده
We prove that any Markov chain that performs local, reversible updates on randomly chosen vertices of a bounded-degree graph necessarily has mixing time at least Ω(n logn), where n is the number of vertices. Our bound applies to the so-called “Glauber dynamics” that has been used extensively in algorithms for the Ising model, independent sets, graph colorings and other structures in computer science and statistical physics, and demonstrates that many of these algorithms are optimal up to constant factors within their class. Previously, no super-linear lower bound was known for this class of algorithms. Though widely conjectured, such a bound had been proved previously only in very restricted circumstances, such as for the empty graph and the path. We also show that the assumption of bounded degree is necessary by giving a family of dynamics on graphs of unbounded degree with mixing time O(n).

Rapid mixing of Swendsen-Wang and single-bond dynamics in two dimensions
We prove that the spectral gap of the Swendsen-Wang dynamics for the random-cluster model on arbitrary graphs with m edges is bounded above by 16m logm times the spectral gap of the single-bond (or heat-bath) dynamics. This and the corresponding lower bound (from [U12]) imply that rapid mixing of these two dynamics is equivalent. Using the known lower bound on the spectral gap of the Swendsen-W...

Any directed graph G with N vertices and J edges has an associated line-graph L(G) where the J edges form the vertices of L(G). We show that the non-zero eigenvalues of the adjacency matrices are the same for all graphs of such a family Ln(G). We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a line-graph to be quantisable and demonstrate that the spectra of associated quantum propagators follow ...

Medicinal chemistry depends on many other disciplines ranging from organic chemistry andpharmacology to computational chemistry. Typically medicinal chemists use the moststraightforward ways to prepare compounds. The validation of any design project comes from thebiological testing.Studies of the binding site of vinblastine by a single cross—linking experiment identified it asbeing between resi...
متن کاملOn Zagreb Energy and edge-Zagreb energy
In this paper, we obtain some upper and lower bounds for the general extended energy of a graph. As an application, we obtain few bounds for the (edge) Zagreb energy of a graph. Also, we deduce a relation between Zagreb energy and edge-Zagreb energy of a graph $G$ with minimum degree $delta ge2$. A lower and upper bound for the spectral radius of the edge-Zagreb matrix is obtained. Finally, we ...
متن کاملThe lower bound for the number of 1-factors in generalized Petersen graphs
In this paper, we investigate the number of 1-factors of a generalized Petersen graph $P(N,k)$ and get a lower bound for the number of 1-factors of $P(N,k)$ as $k$ is odd, which shows that the number of 1-factors of $P(N,k)$ is exponential in this case and confirms a conjecture due to Lovász and Plummer (Ann. New York Acad. Sci. 576(2006), no. 1, 389-398).
